My country and London

In this lesson, beginner ESOL learners explore the topic of "My Country" by learning to talk about where they are from, their nationality, and basic facts about their home country. Through speaking, listening, singing and writing activities, students practise simple sentence structures (6h Lesson).

Lesson introduction

The aim of this lesson is to be able to take part in a basic job interview using appropriate language and simple sentence structures.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, you will be able to:

  • Use key vocabulary related to home country
  • Use the present simple, the future and the past simple
  • Use must
  • Ask and answer basic questions to other students
  • Use "and" to connect clauses in your answers
  • Write simple sentences with correct punctuation (capital letters and full stops)

Activity 5: Controlled practice

You need to write and speak about your country using the sentences structure used in the song.

  • Firstly, in a paper write down some keywords and circle them.
  • Then write some sentences.

For example:


In Bolivia there is...
I like Bolivian food.
I like Mohito.

Activity 6: Roleplay (Freer activity)

As freer activity, you will complete a role play.You are on the train and you meet a new friend.You are going to introduce yourself and speak about UK and your country.
Write down the keywords below a paper, to be used as a guidance.
In a separate paper you can write the sentences as a preparation, however you will not use them during the speaking activity.
